Glue for 87 190E Plastic Dash?
I'm working on Mom's '87190E over the holidays. I live two states away so don't have much time. Above the center dash air vents are three rocker switches, two I assume for airflow, the third for the antenna. Last week she pushed the middle switch through the black dashpanel plastic, which has one horizontal crack to the left of the center switch hole, and two to the right, with a small section now loose but complete. I removed the rightmost switch, then hooked my finger through its hole to push the center switch back out. My question is what glue (if any) will reliably hold the dashpanel cracks together, so the switch doesn't push through again. In my experience, most glues and epoxies work poorly on most interior plastics. Does anyone know what might work with MB plastics in this case? Thanks!!

Rather than glue, I believe Fastlane (icon above) has the triangular black plastic part for around $50. Check for "vent frame" under the climate controls section.

As Mom's 85 and I have to leave for home in a few days, buying the plastic is not an immediate option. I just need to glue the cracks so everything will hold till I'm back in the summer, at which point I can replace the plastic cover. By the way, I discovered the three rocker switches in that area are rear window defrost, the sunroof switch, and the antenna. It was the sunroof switch that pushed through. One indie garage suggested slow-set 2 part epoxy, which would probably be my choice, but again, I've seen many interior plastics that just won't bind to most glues. How about Gorilla? Thanks!

When doing the repair, you'll have to do it so that the plastic vent facia part doesn't flex, since that will allow the switch to pop thru again. You'd need an allen wrench and an offset screwdriver to remove the vent facia to reinforce it from the backside.

there is some stuff you can get which is a 2 part expoxy called plastic weld.
Etiher that, or you can get JBquick by jbweld. I have used the plastic weld to seal a leaking radiator coolant resevoir, and I have used jbquick to fix a leaking plastic radiator, and the radiator still isn;t leaking after almost a year. So either one will work well. I have used the plastic weld to repair a broekn top holder for an acryllic fish tank, and it has lasted 5 months so far without a problem. Alon
