How to clean contact for power seats

1989 300E

Would anyone be able to shed any light on the process of disassembling the power seat controls on the door to acess the contacts. I have reviewed other post with similar issues pertaining to the passenger seat not being able to incline. All other functions on the seat are working.

Would this step be adviseable for should I inspect the motor on the back of the seat?

Any help would be appreciated as I am a unexperienced DIY.

Many thanks in advance.

I haven't had to do this (yet) but it apparently is a common problem. I've read that it's preferable not to disassemble seat or window switches since they have a multitude of steel balls and springs which have a tendency to go every which way when you take a switch apart.

What I've read on the Ritter-Easley list is to liberally spray some electrical contact cleaner in any openings you can see on the switch and then move the individual switch many, many times (like 100) -- this may eventually clean up the contacts of the switch without having to remove it.

Top that off with some compressed air to blow the crap out of the switch.
Them squirt a little WD40 in for lube.
The contact cleaner cleans the lube out too, and they need that.

Many thanks

Gentlemen:

I am indebted to you for your advise as I have just completed the task of spraying contact cleaner into any available crevice on the controls. Much to my delight, the seat back inclined back to its position.

Thank you.
