W140/722.5 Cold Hard shift
Hello everybody.
I own a 94 S320 with 79K. Today I drove the car cold 2 miles and stopped at my first destination. Within this distance I experienced the usual upshift delay from gears 2 to 3. After about 1 hour I left my stop and proceeded down the road. This time the shifts were not delayed, but they were hard from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3, slightly hard from 3 to 4 with a little rpm surge between 3 & 4. After a couple of miles things settled out and all was OK. Any thoughts as to what caused this behavior? Do I need to check my upshift delay valve? Could it be on the way out? By the way...all shift points were at their correct rpm level. Thanks for the input! :-) |

Correction
After reading my post again, I have a correction.
2nd to 3rd is where the over-rev is occuring and it does seem to settle a bit when warned up. I also have noticed that the trans. seems to almost skip through 2nd going to 3rd at times, when cold. I have done a bit of research on this site and it seems it may be a certain valve body spring going bad. Would this spring account for the cold hard shifting or could that be a different problem. |
