Just Happened-Stuck clutch pedal

Guys and gal, recently was driving my 1987 190e 2.3 5 speed maual benz and after changing from 1st gear to 2nd gear my cluth pedal sank and would'nt come back up even when i reahed down to to pull it up., i was really nervous, but after turning off the engine and pulling on pedal again,it now came back up and the pressure reurned.I started the car back up and was able to drive it home, on the way home it did it again and i did the same thing again in order to continue my journey home, im not sure what would cause this.

Your thoughts please?
