Where is the coolant overflow tank? 124.036

I need to replace the hose leading to the coolant overflow tank (it's petrified). This is the tank embedded somewhere in the fender under or near the control module box. How do I find this tank and get to the hose fitting on it for replacement?

The overflow tank is the brownish (happens with age) tank on the left side of this picture, above the larger wiper fluid tank. When you describe a tank hidden in the fender, that sounds more like a charcoal cannister used for fuel evaporation vapors or the vaccum accumulators.

overflow tank

what he is reffering to is an over flow tank that is located in the passenger side fender. (see picture below it is circled) you will need to remove the plasitc inner fender trim to gain acess. the hose you will need is mercedes number 916030 000527 they sell it by the meter. hope this helps.

Ray,

Exactly, And that plastic inner fender liner is one continuos piece that fits under, as well, the access door for the fog light is embedded in it. I almost removed that looking for the windshield washer hose connection. But after headlamp, wiper motor and associated plastic shroud was removed, I found the hose junction I was looking for.

Thanks for the help, good thing the other car is operational.

Doug

Yes, I'm replacing that tank as well, the new one is not really white, sort of amber, but the brass fittings are very nicely done. I think you'd call that the expansion tank.
