W124 Injector replacement - 12v/24v versions?

Am planning to replace my injectors. Have found a good (cheap @ £13 each) supplier but they can only source Bosch injectors listed for the 12v 300CE engine not the 24v 300 CE-24 that I have – apparently there's a slight difference between these two types of injector.

The supplier says that "the 24v injector delivers a greater output spray per dwell than the 12v", but that "it's a very small difference between the two types". He also says that even using the 12v injectors I'll see a big improvement over the current (75k miles old) 24v ones.

Anyone have any advice? Is he telling the truth or just after a sale?

I'd generally think to use the proper ones for the 24v engine, but feel slightly loathed to pay nearer 3 times the price from an official supplier if the only impact of using the 12v ones is say a 1% drop in BHP.

Regards,
Neil

Doubling the voltage to the 12v injectors will double the amperage. You would risk damaging the injectors, or worse, damaging the computer. I wouldn't do it.

What?! I think he was referring to 12 V is for VALVES not volts in this case. I don't know too many cars that run on 24 volts (yet at least). As for the injector question, I don't know

The injectors ARE different parts, and I don't know why. But, I have to believe your supplier is feeding you a line, because 'dwell' does not apply with CIS. Valid differences might be rate-of-flow, spray pattern, pressure cutoff, or physical fitment. I would absolutely stick with the correct ones, if you don't know the exact difference.

That's what I get for thinking before coffee.
Millitary stuff runs on 24 volt systems, and sometimes makes it into the civillian market. I never considered valves.

Still, I'd go with the correct injectors for the vehicle. I once had a small truck (Toyota or Nissan...can't recall) towed in from another shop. They'd installed a used engine, and it'd run for a few minutes and die. When trying to restart, they found that the fuel injectors wern't firing. This was traced to the ECM. They'd smoked two ECMs the same way when they gave up and dragged it to me.

After a long time looking at wiring diagrams and scratching my head, I discovered that they had not installed any of the fuel injectors from the old engine, but had used the ones that came with the new (used) motor. In one year, the specification for the injectors was 13 ohms each, while in another year, the specification was 6 ohms each, with a dropping resistor in the wiring harness. Unless I was certain that there'd be no harm, I'd never use the wrong injectors.

Indeed 'v' is for valve. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the quick replies - you've convinced me to spend the extra cash and put the proper injectors in.

Cheers,
Neil
