Fuel leak? 300SEL

I have an 88 300 SEL that seems to have some trouble starting up and idling which is accompanied by the smell of fuel. Just wondering if its a common problem, and if so how might I repair it.
Thanks

I would pop the hood and sniff around for fuel. Fuel lines, fuel distributor, etc. on drivers side under the hood.

At the back of the car is the fuel filter/pump - near passenegr side real wheel close to tank. Looking at things from the back, there's a rubber line that exits the fuel filter. This things gets hard as a rock over time. Check this area for leaks as well.

Then of course, there's the lines from the back of car up to the front.

I would first check out the "gas smell" and worry about the other issues after that gets solved.

I've checked all that out I'm fairly certain it's one of the components near the distributor; regulator, or idle control. I replaced the fuel filter, which helped some yet its not quite cured. The pump works and all the lines apear to be in good condition. Although the regulator seems to releasing some fumes into the breather. I also checked the igniton module and everything apeared correct there aswell, providing I checked it correctly.

Classified, if your engine has an EHA valve I'd suspect that as the source of the gasoline smell. It probably has a hairline crack and needs replaced.

Exclamation

Was taking a closer look and found that gas was leaking down the intake manifold. I tightened the manifold but I am going to replace the gasket any tips? And why would fuel be leaking there? New injecters needed?
