124 dash removal 300te

Hi all,

Well this following Monday I undertake the unenviable task of hauling out my dash for an evap replacement. Will be doing the heater core while I'm in there because I hope to never have to do this again!
I am looking for any support the members can give me in the way of tricks or difficult areas that I should pay special attention to.
There will be a friend with me that has done many dashes before but never in an MB.
If there are any posted photos that would be especially helpful to me.
I am relatively new to this site so I am having a hard time negotiating my way around.

Many thanks

Mark

124 dash removal

I did it recently to replace vacuum pods. Plan on a couple of days work. The MBZ DVD manual has information that is useful. I didn't have to remove the steering wheel to do it. Also check GSXR's posts and follow to his website for photos of what you will find under the dash. Consider pod replacement while you're in there, and good luck.

Other evap replacement threads suggest that tt is a good idea to replace all of the vacuum pods while you have the dash off. I don't have the links right now sry

This is gsxr's post:

I did this a couple of years ago to replace the vacuum pods - it took me 18 hours spread out over 3 days, doing it at a leisurely pace. Others can do it faster. I don't know how bad the evap removal is, but the dash itself is not too bad, just very tedious, with a few difficult spots.

If you have a digital camera, I strongly recommend taking lots of pictures, especially of the more complicated fasteners. This will help you arrange the pieces back together, especially for the ones with screws and clips and nuts all in one fastener. Some of them are not intuitive...

Also, bag and label fasteners for specific parts of the dash.
