In my 73 450sl I noticed that the steering wheel is not directly in front of me (the driver). It seems to be tipped to the driver door. Is the steering coloum not straight? Any ides? Oh btw this is my first here. And the reading has been great. I hope I can help sometime.

Column is straight..the dummy that did the last alignment didn't set the steering straight before doing the alignment.

THats more likely than the fact some other dummy had the wheel off and reinstalled it incorrectly...

There is a proper position to the shaft as it will effect the turn signal canceller if its not centered...

Correct me if I'm wrong; but I don't think you're talking about the orientation of the wheel on the shaft (centering the wheel); but, rather, the steering shaft "leaning" towards the driver's door? Right?

Many MB models have that "lean" built in. Can't remember which way mine is. Supposed to aid in entrance/exit from car.

Steering column angle has nothing to do with toe and wheel centering.
It is access angle and collision design.

jbaj007 You are right on. The coloum leans to the drivers door. Seems strange, does not effect the driving any and no one can notice it unless they get behind the wheel. Thanks

Check to see if your model had the "collapsible" steering column to reduce chest injurie's as a result of impact. If so, then the column collapsed unevenly. If your model does not have this feature perhaps one (if there's more than one) knuckle is deteriorated.
