Thumbs up W126 - Cruise Amp or Actuator failure?

What is typically the problem with the CC on these vehicles? I pulled the amp from my SDL this evening and it has a build date of 1993, the vehicle is a 1987. Seems to me it's been replaced as the amp I pulled from my parts car is a 1985 build amp.

That being said, would the actuator or the switch on the column be the likely culprit? I have extra of both so that's not an issue.

Thanks for some input.

9 times out of ten it is the amp. The other time it will be either the actuator or combo switch. GDL has a how to test the components page so you can help narrow down the offending item. Easy (but not always accurate) test is to see if the cruise will accelerest via the stalk but disengage as soon as you release. If that happens it is most likely the amp.

Thumbs up

I'll have to check to see if it is the amp tomorrow when I take it for a drive to get inspected finally. Hopefully it's just that as pulling that actuator looks to be a PITA.

The Best in the Biz

I had a problem with my 83 CC. I found this guy on the net

http://gdl-online.com/mbz01.html

He happens to be about 10 minutes from my house wich was crazy b/c I live in San Luis Obispo, CA (1/2 way between LA and SF) ... any way, the web site has some great diagnostic test to perform yourself and if your amp is bad he'll fix it and send it back ...

Thumbs up

CC parts are spendy! I'll go with the testing outlined and scour around for some junk parts.
