Will Rear seat from 91 420sel fit 88 560sel w/power recline?

My current back seat is heated and has the power recline
standard in the 88 560 SEL. The back seat I'm looking at is
from a 91 420 SEL that doesn't have heating or the power
recline.

I know I'd either have to give up the heated seat which is
fine, I'm in Texas and so it isn't essential. But I'm wondering
if this seat will work with my reclining frame shown below.

Thanks,

Bill

Thanks, Tom. I'd be buying this as part of an entire
interior which I'd also be paying freight on from 1500
miles away so I want to find out before I buy it.

All the best,

Bill

No, it won't work.

The rear fixed and electric seats do have different anchor points, different structure and different subframes. For that matter, all front electric and non-electric MB seats are not interchangeable either.

Even switching from a rear electric bench seat to rear individual bucket seats (separate option also available) would not work (for all the same reasons explained above).

To be more clear: the exchange could ultimately be done in your case, but it will require MAJOR work, time and expense to do so and at the end the seat may not operate properly.

I have both types of seats, the back of the seat in my opnion is the same, but the bottom of the adjustable seat screws in rather than snapping in.

Depending on how much you want to do, you coulod buy the 420 rear seat and swap the leather cover to your seat. Plus, with a little extra ambition you could sew your seat heaters to the un-heated 420 cover and retain the heated seat function. BTDT, but for the front seats in my case.

Mike, do you mean the front seats won't fit without modification either? Or were you using them in a car without power seats?

The leather on my 560 had seen better days, I found pristine leather in a 420. I swapped the leather from the 420 into my 560, but had to manually sew the seat heaters from the 560 into the 420 covers before mounting the covers on my seats. The complete seat assemblies would have bolted right in but I wanted to keep the seat heaters.

If you don't care about seat heaters (they are nice, even in California) you could just swap the leather into your rear seat cushion assembly, and probably the seat back as well. For the fronts it is simply a matter of what, 4 bolts and a couple electrical connections and you could drop in the unheated seats.

The front seats are heated so no loss there. I'm reconsidering this now.
It may not be the simple bolt-in I'd hoped for but your idea of pulling the
leather on the back seat and having it put on my current seat makes
sense. Besides knowing the leather will match all the way around, it's a lot
cheaper than buying the covers from one of the suppliers online and
I'll have recline and heated rear seats.

Ebay seller in Ventura, California with 100% feedback. I got sniped on the four door panels and rear seat which had 0 bids up until the closing minutes of the auction by a guy that was ready to spend more than I was. I won the two front seats, though, which is what I needed the most.

I can get covers for the rear seat and I don't think the current door panels will look out of place with the 91 style seats. If they do, I can look for another set or get the leather inserts.
