BTW, I haven't been to a quick lube place in years...don't like the animal-house atmosphere with tattoo'd tech school dropouts working on my car while the 25 year old "manager" chats with his girlfriend in the parking lot...I find the whole thing offensive.

To be fair though, getting customer service anywhere is amazing...the checkout lady at Walmart won't smile, the rude teen at the McDonald's doesn't respond when I say good morning; she just stares at me while she chews her gum with her mouth hanging open. So many people have so little class and such poor manners and interpersonal skills, it makes me wonder how they expect to accomplish anything in life.

The other day I went to the grocery store. The cashier was far to busy chatting with the bag boy about that nights party to even acknowledge me, she didn't even bother to tell me the total. She just stood there, staring at me. I was trying to pay with that funny stuff called cash. After a long pause, she asked me why I hadn't swiped the card. When she saw the cash(20.00 bills) she groaned and said I would have to wait because she didn't have "the pen thingy" to check if it was fake, so she calls a manager over the intercom. Meanwhile, the guy in line behind me has now picked up my copy of THE HORSE magazine and is reading it.

All I could think of was this:

Definition of Stress: The confusion created when
one's mind overrides the
body's desire to beat or choke
the living dung
Out of some jerk who
desperately
needs it.

Checking back on this thread, I find it ironic to see an advertisement in the lower right hand corner of my screen for "Jiffy Lube Franchises".

Shame, shame, shame on the people who run this site for advertisng such garbage.

Money-it's the root of all evil. Thank you Pink Floyd for stamping that into my head in the early '80s.

Well said. The good part to you is that you probably won't see these jerks any more.

Unfortunately I have a job that I need to see these people again and again after their life time failures. For example:

Trashes like these come and demand me sign their "disability" forms because they feel sick all the time......

Jerks like these bring their utility bill discount forms demanding to be signed because their offsprings having "asthma". So they need to keep their new A/C on at home 24 hours a day, and they have every rights not to pay for it......

When they were literally told to "get lost", they complain to every imaginable places in the system, because their form were not signed. What a great country this is, to them.

All of a sudden I understand what actually lump us, this forum's readers, together. We take care of our cars with the same attitude that we used to take care of our lives. That's what makes our lives different from theirs.

Thank you for saying something we can all agree on, no matter what age we are. Young or old.

John, I believe that saying goes like this, "The love of money is the root of all evil." Money itself is neither good nor bad. It's merely a means of exchange. We endow it with all sorts of symbolic powers.

Do you know what's inside that "pen thingy?"

Iodine. It turns black in the presence of starch. Since most amateur counterfeiters will use off-the-shelf starched paper, it will leave a black mark.

But there is an obvious problem here. James Randi has written about these pens before, and how they give business owners a very false sense of security, while enriching the pens developers. Supposedly, he often withdraws new twenties from the bank, starches them well, and puts them into circulation.

How true, and to take it a bit further it's all relative. Some people are never satisfied, no matter how much they have. Some of the richest people I have ever met, didn't have more then $100 in the bank. They had the respect and admiration of family and friends, and that means more than all the money in the world.

That's pretty amazing, so if someone bleached a lower denomination note and reprinted it as, say, a $20 or $50 the pen would show it to be real. With so many security features built into modern U.S. currency I don't see how people can trust a pen that only tests for starch.

Those adds are automatic, triggard by certain words in the thread. The content is chosen by Google. Jiffy Lube is the last place any Mercedes or high end car should be seen at.

But to the average Joe with an older Ford, no time to do anything, and who doesn't want to spend money on it. Jiffy lube has its place.

This is amazing. I've found Wal-mart employees helpful to the point where I apologized to them for taking up their time.
