Post-Oil & Filter Change Problem
I recently changed the oil and filter on my '92 300E and it was driving fine for two days until this morning. When I came to a stop, with my foot firmly on the brake pedal, I felt the car sort of stutter-step or lunge foward but in short sequences, almost like it wanted to take off. To add to this, the oil pressure guage was fluctuating from 1-3 very rapidly, again, in short sequences. Any have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I don't know when they started putting the M104 into the W124, but if your car has the M104 engine, there is a vaccum line very near the oil filter that has probably been disconnected when the filter was removed. It happened to me about 4 years ago when the dealer did an oil and filter change for me.

it was model year 93 when the m104 went into the 124 body.

David, in the USA the 1990 300CE and 300SL came with the 104 engine.

Absolutely. It is very easy to correct. If you do have the M104, you can do it yourself in a matter of minutes. If I remember correctly, the line runs in front of the filter (towards the nose of the car) and goes under the intake manifold. It is a thin line, and again if I remember correctly is grey in colour. Just run your hand along this line until you find the rubber connector that it is supposed to be seated into. Plug it in to the connector.
