Help with 300CE headlights
Today, while trying to adjust the headlights in my "new" 1991 300CE I discovered that the attaching screws on the inside of the light assemblies was missing on each headlight assembly.
I can easily access the area, on the left hand side headlight, where the screw mounts. All I have to do is remove the "snorkel" attached to the air intake hose (the hose that leads to the air filter housing). But on the right hand side, the grill in front of the two auxiliarry fans prevents from getting access to the third headlight mounting screw. Any suggestions on: 1. getting to the headlight mounting screw w/o removing the auxilliary fans cover or 2. how to remove the fan cover in order to access the mounting screw. The attached pictures should shed soome light on what I am talking about. #1 picture--left hand headlight showing where the attachign screw goes. As you can see, that area is fairly easy to access. #2 picture--right hand side light assembly. There is no screw there (there should be one) but the screw cannot be accessed w/o removing "something." #3 picture--the auxilliary fan covers. PS I have done this job on my 1989 300TE (I've installed Euro lights in the wagon), but the 300TE only has one fan and access to the screws, on either side, is fairly straight-forward. Thanks in advance.

Yeh, that one is tough. You gain the room by pivoting the Radiator inwards at the top.
Proceed as follows: 1) Remove the fan shroud. First the inner piece, then the main piece that is held in place with two clips one left and one right. Now you have created room for the radiator to move rearward at the top. 2) Remove the 4 clips at the top of the radiator. Push the radiator in at the top. You will now have room to remove that bolt. Thanks Steve.
That sounds about right...I was just hoping that there would be an easier way. I have removed and re-installed lights in my former W126, in my 300TE and in my W210. All of them were a breeze, no more than 10 minutes per light. This one seems to be a toughie. But I am anal about things, so I will bite the bullet and do it, just to make sure that the light is mounted at all 3 points. Thanks.

Your dealer has an inexpensive "bag of parts" for this application that will have all the screws you need. It's a single part number.

The bag includes all the screws, bolts and clips. It even includes the plastic fastenr that goes on top of grill support members. Left side is done. It is the right side that is giving me trouble. Do you have any suggestion, besides what Steve suggested above? I hate unclipping and moving the radiator. Hey, I was back in ABQ at the end of January. The weather was nice, compared to my previous visit in December....
