I should mention though that if my car does not soon get help, it will not see 270K.

1984 500SEC. Just turned over 234,000 this weekend. Origonal pistons and heads. No sign of slowing down yet. Put on a set of really cool sheep skins and fuel filter, pump, and accumulator. Doing all the work myself save the water and smog pump I had put in in the beginning of our relationship. I have now surpassed the $14,000 invested mark.

I read an article in Motor Trend ( I think) a few years back, where they found a mid-80's SEC with 2 million actual miles, still in service. It had the 2nd or 3rd engine, but was still useable and drove pretty well.

A SEC with 2 million miles!!!!!. To me if the engine has been replaced or rebuilt, then the clock starts over. Hell, as long as a car's body holds up you can go 10 million miles, just keep doing engine swaps.

1991 350SD Turbo

Our '91 350SD W126 just turned 484,000. I'm also driving an '87 420SEL that just turned over 280,000. The more miles these cars get on them makes me fall more and more in love with the build quality and reliability of Mercedes. (Provided proper maintenance of course )

I bought my 1984 300SD With 470,000 miles on it. Thats what it says on the tittle.

The odometer stopped working at 400,000 miles.

The engine, transmission, shocks, body, electrical, everything works great.

I've done some maintenance on the car and now the car runs excellent.

And im about to convert it to veggie kit this week.

That is impressive, especially so if it is the original rod bender motor.

Still impressive even if it got a new crate motor at 100K.

My 99 is at 200k on its OM606 Turbo. I dont expect to own it for another 300k but see no reason it wont to be alive and kickin and hit that mark also.

It's over 490k!

The 91SD has over 490,000 on the clock. I haven't driven the car in 6 months and forgot about what the actual mileage was. I took a picture (below) of the odometer a couple months back and it was over 485K)

The engine in the '91 was rebuilt around 225k (short block I believe) It wasn't rebuilt for the "rod-bender" problem either (which most experience problems with within the first 125k miles if I can recall) Other than that it still has the original engine. Hard to believe I know. It's my dad's car who has been a Mercedes independent mechanic for the past 25 years and is now working at the local Benz dealership. FYI: His newest addition to our Mercedes family is a '94 S500 Coupe Lots of the electronics give me the willies but I know that my dad can keep it running like new for many years to come (only 50,000 miles on it currently).

If you keep these cars maintained properly they'll pretty much run forever.

You'd be a celebrity around here with that kind of mileage. Congratulations. I am on my third engine, and I only have ~290K miles on my '91 350SD. First went out at 88K miles, last one at almost 200K miles.

Why was the engine rebuilt at 225K miles?

It was rebuilt because of a leaking head gasket (a rumored predecessor to the rod bending problem ) I think my dad figured that with that many miles on the engine, he might as well go the extra mile and do the whole short block. After the re-build the car was unbelievable. Gotta love the diesel!
