				Water pump change?

Yep, me again.. I was wondering, how much would a water pump job (labor, hour-wise) usually costs? Since I'm also here, my rad blew, the car ended up being in the red for heat for a little time.. now I changed the rad but the pump seems to be failing (as there is coolant leaking still) Now I was wondering, what else could have been damaged by the high heat when the radiator died away? And what's around the water pump that could be worth changing while everything is already taken apart? The car has 165K kms, roughly 102K miles, I think. It's a '91 190E 2.6. Thanks to all in advance! |

You could warp the head, blow a head gasket, warp some internal engine components by running the car hot too long. As far as other items needing attention while the water pump is replaced. I would say that is something the shop would have to inspect while the car is there since without looking at it, there is no way to tell. Sounds like the car is close to a 105-k "E" service and may need that performed unless you have had all that done already. But really it needs to be inspected by a competent shop that knows theese cars, especially one with a good engine guy that can look the car over since it sounds like you ran it hot. |

while replacing the water pump, the belt tensioner and the shock absorber should be looked at for proper operation. In case of doubt, replace those also. water pump only??: Took me close to 6 hours to replace mine. There are a few hard to reach bolts that will test the nerve of anyone not familiar with this operation. Don't forget to replace the little 3in. long rubber hose, between the pump and the engine block. |

But what's an "E" service? I tried a little search but didn't come up with anything.. I also don't have the car's original boolet with me as it is with the car itself.. would anyone be as kind as to tell me what it is or redirect me toward a page that could help me? Thanks |

Basically a 15,000 mile service due at 105-k miles which includes, engine air filter, cabin filters if required, spark plugs, wiper insert, lube throttle linkages, oil and filter change, top fluids, set tire pressures, check battery and charging system, spare tire, general inspection, brakes ,lights, interior, exterior functions, safety check underside and suspension components and drivetrain components. You can order new maintenence books from the dealership. Should have the fuel filter replaced every 60-k miles, and would not be a bad idea to have the differential gear lube changed. |
