I know the key was not in the ignition when connected/disconnected the battery.

Would the adaption values cause the acceleration problem even though the car crawls in drive?
Your welcome. It's possible that adaptation values can cause the acceleration problem. I hope that others can confirm this, surely a experienced member can chime in with some knowledge.

As to the kids leaving the reading lights on, I know the feeling. My three year old is fascinated by them, and I ended taking the bulbs out, at least until she starts reading. Thank goodness for the switch that disables the rear power windows and door locks.

Still need help. I bought an OBDII autoscanner today and connected it to my car. The car passed the code reader by saying PASS and no codes found. Long story short everything checked out find. So now it's time to get a tow to the dealer. Any other thoughts out there? Cheers!

The generic OBDII code readers don't even scatch the surface of what the dedicated Mercedes tool can do. They are limited to giving trouble codes IF the check engine light is on, and the more expensive ones give a limited amount of live data. The can't read the adaptation values or reset them.

Let us know what happens and good luck.

I read an artical about a technician trying to solve the same issue I have and the solution turned to be the the over voltage protection relay (OVPR). Have you had any dealings with the OVPR? At some point I'm going to have take the car in but at least I'm leaning a few things before I do.

Will keep you all posted.

I don't know about your W140 chassis, but my '90 560SEL has a fuse on the Over Voltage Protection relay. Check to see if the fuse is blown, because the relay powers all sorts of circuits in the car, and may indeed be the cause for the ASR light being on.

Any idea where the relays are located on my car? I know where the two main fuse boxes are but can't seem to locate the relays. Thanks.

I believe the K40 relay is #111?
