90 300SE rear window stuck in down position
This is in the right rear door - the door sustained some damage when sideswiped but the window has been working fine until today. Now operating the switch for up/down movement makes the motor run until it hits a limit switch in both directions but the window is stuck in the fully open position with about 1/4 " showing.
Is there some kind of anchor or frame that the glass panel is attached to that could have broken loose? How big a job is it to gain access to the works by removing the interior trim? Any pointers appreciated. |

It sounds like a window rolling regulator (or sliding jaw) is broken.
Only about $4, and they are prone to break. Look it up on Fastlane for a picture of it. Pretty easy to replace once the door panel is off. The wife has the cr today, but as I remember, you gently slide a screwdriver under the front edge of the plastic that surrounds the door handle and work it off. Then undo all the screws, etc; and lift straight up on the door panel. You will immediately spot the problem if the sliding jaw is busted. DG |

Thanks so much - that appears to be the problem - the white plastic slider was broken in two and the lifting arm was detached from it.
I have removed the broken pieces and it looks like the original part has a metal post that is swaged or riveted in place on the lifting arm (see attachment). Does that have to be removed by grinding the end off? And then, does the new part have to be swaged in place? If so, how is that done? |

Just use a ball peen hammer to flatten it out.
Yes, you have to cut the old rivet out. Part is less than $5.
