Sorry I feel like I'm beating a dead horse but did more researching on OVP part #'s on this site and with 3 local MB parts desks and am getting some inconsistencies.... What I initially thought was that the newer / upgraded OVP had part # 000 540 67 45 AND had 2 fuses (not sure of the amperage). However, what I found from researching indicates that 000 540 67 45 has only 1 fuse. Also, some posts will also say that 000 540 67 45 is the old version of the OVP.
I attached a JPG table summary of what I found and summarized below. Summary: 1) Some links will say that Part # 000 540 52 45 is the old / OEM OVP. What is the description of it? Does it have 1 15A fuse or 2 10A fuses? e.g. "The old one is 000-540-52-45" ---> http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=230623&highlight=ovp 2) Some links will say that Part # 000 540 67 45 is the new OVP. Again, what is the description of it? Does it have 1 15A fuse or 2 10A fuses? "The upgrade replacement is 000- 540-67-45" ---> http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=230623&highlight=ovp 3) Some links will switch it around and say that 000 540 67 45 is the old one and that 000 540 52 45 is the new / upgraded one. Again, no description of the number of fuses on the new one vs. the old one. e.g. "Old part# 000 540 67 45. New modified replacement 000 540 52 45" http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=142826&highlight=ovp+part+number 4) I called a few local MB part desks and all 3 have said that 000 540 67 45 is the correct OVP for my car. This OVP has a single 15A fuse, but looks like there are 2 fuse slots (even though one is a dummy). Is this the correct / upgraded OVP? ALSO, the MB Parts desk guys have an OVP with 2 10A fuses, but they have said that this is the old version, and that the single 15A version is the new one. 5) My OVP looks very similar to the one here, which also includes only a single 15A fuse. So that tells me, as does # 4, that I have the correct OVP. So will replacing the OVP do me any good? Is it then just that the OVP is fried, as opposed to being an older model? http://catalog.peachparts.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=&yearid=1993%40%401993&makeid=MB%40%40Mercedes+Benz&modelid=300%2DCE%2D003%40%40300CE+Coupe&keyword=over&catid=All@@over&subcatid=P2056@@Overload+Relay&mode=PA Please clarify! |

Orig was 52-45 ------- replaced by 67-45.
http://catalog.peachparts.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1993-Mb-300ce--Coupe-Body--Electrical&yearid=1993%40%401993&makeid=MB%40%40MB%40%40X&modelid=300%2DCE%2D003%40%40300CE+Coupe&catid=P%40%40Body+Electrical&subcatid=P2056@@Overload+Relay&mode=PA There was a typo on the old threads.

Gotcha, and that means a single 15A fuse, but the OVP looks like it can hold 2?

There are two slots b/c the manufacturer can use the same case for ones that require the use of 2 fuses , so they use the same case in that production, that's all. An example is Electronic trans use the extra circuit...you do not.

Ah, so having clarified all that, I can say that I definitely have the updated OVP (single 15A fuse).... unless the old version also had a single 15A fuse (which from what I can tell the old version had 2 10A fuses).
In this case, do you still suspect the OVP for my issues and that I should swap it out? Just an old OVP with bad connections? Is it possible to take out / open up and clean? |

The orig and the upgrade/replacement OVP BOTH had single fuse ...you tell which you have by looking at the PART NUMBER on the relay...........that is why we listed the part number and asked you to see of you had the old part#.
Regardless...you can take the relay apart and clean it, look for bad/poor conections, etc. The orig had bad Zener diodes and that is why it was junk and should be replaced regardless of it giving you trouble or not...

Ah Arthur thanks very much. I did read about the Zener diodes on the site but didn't put 2 and 2 together. Plus, now I understand that both have the single 15A fuse so this really helps to clarify things! Thanks again.

I have the new 000 540 67 45 OVP and it is intermittant at 117,000miles. New style doesn't last forever either.

it's been 2 weeks now with the new OVP and I've tried a few times to recreate the hot start issue I've been having with no luck! So it seems like the replacement OVP worked.
Thanks to all on this board - I'm sure that even my MB veteran mechanic would have charged at least a couple hours diagnosing the issue, nevermind trying to recreate it. |
