Talking Mileage

If you are worried about gas mileage, sell the Mercedes and buy a Yaris.

varies with car and style

I drive them differently:

86 300E 5spd - avg 21-23 mostly highway and cruise control

78 280CE auto - avg 17-19 mostly city some highway BUT I LIKE TO GO FAST and tend to put a lot of foot into it - have seen as low as 14 with alot of 100mph runs and jack rabbitish starts.

83 300D - used to avg about 23 mixed IIRC

89 190 2.6 euro 5spd - avg 20 - with mostly autobahn and 160+ kpH speeds - I had a long run at 200 once that gave me about 14mpg but my foot was practically on the pavement for almost 3 hours until tank ran low. This car was pretty peppy to 160 and slower windup from 160-200 (pretty much top speed unless downhill). Oh and no AC it was Germany after all.

Most of my driving is highway, I consistently get 29-32 depending on how heavy footed I am. I will say that a 30-50% of my highway driving is stop and go in traffic. It will drop to 27-29 during the summer with AC on. Best tank was 34.5.

300ce-24

Mine got 31 mpg across France to Brussels and back. Average speed there and back 60 mph and this included some town driving while in Brussels.

Mine is the 300-24 engine with Bosch KE (CIS) injection.

Also, our gallons are bigger.

Short journeys I estimate at nearer 20 mpg.

I love how people post their all time best FE on the highway with a tail wind and they claim 'ya, its my average'.

With my 2.6 5 speed I do mostly highway driving. In the 3 month I've owned it, FE has varied between 24mpg to 33mpg. The 33mpg was all highway, no AC, with mostly sub 70mph speed. I wish my mileage was better but it just isn't. One thing I have noticed is that the FE is about the same whether I use 87 or 92 octane with or without the R16 resistor. Megasquirt should improve on these numbers... if I ever get around to it.

With the 450SLC, I've been averaging 16.4 mpg.. The lowest has been around 13.8 (when I've been trying to crack 100mph with her) and the highest has been 16.7.

With the 280E, it's been in the 15.8 - 16.2 range.. I have to pull the odometer and get it fixed. I've been using my Garmin Nuvi to keep track of the mileage between fills and it seems to be doing an OK job.

I've averaged right around 23 mpg on every tank of diesel since I bought my car. That's usually with a lot more city than highway, but it really doesn't seem to matter all that much...
