Hi, I've got a 300TD wagon with a saggy rear end that makes a loud kathunk noise in the passenger rear when i go over big bumps. The previous owner already purchased a new SLS pump but didn't install it. So, I'm guessing thats the problem b/c the Hydraulic oil is dark grey/black, and from what I've researched that means the pump is bad. It isn't leaking Hydraulic fluid, but there is alot of sludge and gunk all over the front of the pump.
So, I started removing the old pump last night and got the 4 allen bolts unscrewed, but the thing won't budge off the block. I know the remaining 2 allen bolts are to hold the front of the pump on so they shouldn't hold it on judging from my new pump. Do I need to drain the HF before I take off the pump? Are there some secrets to doing this job b/c my Hanes manual doesn't say a thing about removing or replacing this thing.
Any input will be mach appreciated.
Thanks-- Will Pruett
