Ferdman....thanks for the tip on Textar. Can I ask why they are not designed to use those kind of pads and why do they make and offer the semis and ceramics for them? Also, what are the Textars made of?

Steve

Steve, Textar brake pad material compares to the genuine MB brake pads ... black and softer than ceramic or semi-metallic brake pads. The softer material grips better and performs even if the power assist is lost for some reason. The semi-metallic brake pads increase rotor wear rate and, being harder, require more brake pedal pressure.

Many folks switch to ceramic or semi-metallic brake pads to reduce the accumulation of brake dust on their front wheels. I tried Portrfield pads years ago, but braking efficiency suffered and I switched back quickly to Textar pads.

Thanks Ferdman! I found them and also notice they are less expensive! Always a great alternative for me. I'll give these guys a run and if they don't get better, will order the Textars and also from now on. Info is much appreciated!

Update

Just installed some Textar brake pads on my front rotors to replace previous ones that I have not been happy with and they immediately started stopping the car much quicker with less brake pedal pressure. Amazing what a difference there can be.

I just put on some Jurid's. We'll see how they do compared to the previous ones (not sure of brand)

I have Jurid's on my 300TE from 2006...got 60k on them and they still have plenty of life on them. Good stopping, not much dust.

I preferred the Textar though (on my 260E)...I feel like they stop better, but definitely more dust. I'll go with safety (and performance) over dust any day.
