95 E320 Rehabilitation

Ok I've gotten my 95 E320 Wagon. It's in Pretty darn good shape minus a dent here and some other small issues there, this thread will be it's main thread,

First problem, 1/2 of the Cluster is dead, I have Tach and speedo but the Temp, Oil Pressure, and Fuel Level is completely dead, ABS light is on so I assume OVP. Looked in the standard location by the battery (which is darn near about dead) but still. a) Where should I look for the OVP on this car, b) what other problems could cause Dead Gauge Syndrome?

Aquaticedge, to access the OVP relay you need to remove the battery and the black plastic cover behind the battery. If you hear a buzzing behind the battery with the engine running it's likely there is a failed solder connection inside the OVP relay.

If you look at the battery there is a plastic cover directly behind it. It should just pull out. You don't need to remove the battery to get to the ovp relay (maybe you should?) I didn't. It is on the right side of the two giant wiring harness plugs. It is bolted to the car. That bolt was miserable to try and get out. I bought a new one and it rides around with me but I didn't install it. I just unplugged the original ovp and wire brushed the male end.

My symptoms for the ovp were crank but no start...engine wouldn't turn over but the starter was spinning but it wouldn't catch.

They've got a '95 E320 sedan (early '95 belt tensioner) at a local yard that will likely be crushed in the next week or two, if you need me to look for something I'm going tomorrow morning.

I was there today, no fuel tank. Car has been there apparently since spring, pretty picked over and ravaged, the sportline interior is complete but without a rear window and the doors often open, ... ruined. I wish I would have known when it was first placed there.

E320 rehab

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the OVP relay ended with the m103 engines in '93, so you can look forever but never find one on your '95.

Good luck

They continued through '95.....and even though the badge still says "300E" in 1993, they switched to the 3.2 liter M104 engine but didn't change the badge.....and this was only in the U.S.....in the rest of the world they were badged 320E.

So, in the U.S. in 1993, both gas models were M014 engines: the 300E 2.8, and the 300E (3.2).

You're wrong (well, you said to!).

I replaced the OVP relays in both of my '94s and in my '95. They're as un-reliable in those cars as in the earlier ones (worse really, they failed in all of those by around 125,000 miles).

Yeah evap, ... a little worse than vac pods. I was happy to see that my evap has been replaced.

A bigger concern in that car is the wire harness, I hope yours is new. A good time to check over the throttle-actuator wire harness also, in rare cases it can damage other ($$) components when it goes bad.
