Mercedes W123 suspension problem
After changing all the suspension components front and back, my car
now will have a loud "bang" after going over a hump or a large poth hole. It sounded as if the absorber is being stretched to the max and knock at the end of the travel. How is the possible? I'm using a set of brand new Bilstein HD. Ive check and can confirm that the absorber is of the right specification. Before the suspension job, the bang comes from the left front. After those extensive work, both front and rear is making the bang. here is the items i ve changed: all done at the same time by the same shop. Tie Rods Drag Link Front and Rear Absorbers Rear Spring Front and Rear Spring Buffer (4 dots for front and 3 dots for rear) Upper Control Arm Lower Ball Joint Guide Rod Mount Guide Rod-Lower Control Arm Mount Idler Arm Repair Kit Lower Control Arm Bushes Steering Absorber Rear Sub Frame Mount Rear Trailing Arm Bushes Rear Differential Mount Front Sway Bar Bushes Rear Sway Bar Bushes Rear Sway Bar Link |

It sounds like someone else has done this work - if so take the car back.
You might want to take a quick look at the ends of the springs though and see if they are seated in their recesses properly.

Look in the Wikka and compare the pics to your car. There are few excellent "how-to's" with detailed pics of many of the parts you describe.
If something looks amiss, post a photo here for some additional info, then take the car back to get it fixed correctly. That's a lot of work to have a car with a bad suspension. |

I brought the car back to the workshop but even they can't find out what is the problem. The spring is seated properly and everything is fitted properly.

Where are you? Maybe we can recommend you a good shop to go to? I would be very upset if I were you.

If you can't see the problem by comparing how your car looks to how it does in the photos on this forum I think it might be worth your while posting some photographs of your own. May be someone here can spot the problem. One thing that sometimes happens is that new ball joints aren't greased up - they will knock, but you're only really gonna have that problem on the front. Another thing on the front is that when the steering box is loose it clunks too. BUT if I were you I wouldn't mention this to the place where you got the work done - you don't want them fiddling with your car anymore. EDIT take a look at this thread too:- http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=296022
