00 S430 Transmission Downshifting while coming to stop.. HELP!

Hi all, I have tried everything I can think of. I tried resetting the adaptive bs, flushed fluid, gasket, filter, and changed the plug, which did have oil in it.. it still does this.. I can come to a stop and the car will downshift right before I come to a stop, sucking back the car.. Any ideas? Thanks!

If yours has the W/S switch, does it do the same thing in "W"?

Have you checked the trans computer for fluid migration?

Yes, I was driving around in W when I noticed it. I put it in S and it still does the same thing.. I reset the adapt by holding gas pedal down to floor for 20 sec and turning key off, releasing pedal and waiting 2 minutes.. still does it..

Sorry I just got the car, I replaced the switch when I did the trans service yesterday, and the switch just had some fluid on the side of it but contacts looked dry.. I am not sure where the trans computer is.. I just bought the car, and to me, it seems like this just started a few days after I bought it..

Well the TCM is dry.. I brought the car to a buddy who has a MB repair shop. He hooked it to his computer.. the adaptation numbers for the section that determines the downshifting while coasting to a stop were high he said, everything else looked normal. He said there was a CAN error, but he thought it was just a glitch.. He reset the adaptation but it did the same thing right out of his driveway.. I talked to a couple SA's at a couple dealers and one said to try the adaptation again but he said I have to do the long process or it will just keep it's old habits.. Anyway this time I did the long process and this time I kept the car running 10min or longer.. now so far the trans seems to be alot better.. it doesn't suck back the car like it used to but if you watch the RPM's on the tach it is still downshifting just a little too soon but atleast now I can't really feel it..

Also one dealer SA tried to insist that there are no software updates for my trans.. but everyone I talk to says I need to do a software flash and that will fix the problem.. well I don't know what to do.. do I need one or not? The dealer wants $150 to even check.. so if I don't need an update I just blew $150 for 10 seconds worth of work..

Thanks guys!

Trans computer on that ERA car is NOT flash-able.

So what does that mean for this problem? It's the trans going bad?? Both dealers are trying to say, oh well over 100k it's probably worn out.. I'm saying it just turned 106k.. if it's already worn out what kind of junk is this? Whats weird is after I did the long adapt it seemed to work alot better, now it's almost not noticable but you can still see it if you look at the tach while slowing..

Also, one guy is saying it may be the trans computer and that I should try swapping it out.. but if the adapt made it almost go away is then could it be whatever calibrates or sends data to the adapt function? Is there something I need to change with that? Someone mentioned a tranny internal speed sensor but not sure what tranny they were talking about..

Does anyone have any other ideas? I got it to almost go away with the adaptation but if you look at the tach while slowing it's still downshifting too soon.. Maybe I didn't do the adaptation relearn good enough? I drove through each gear to 2500RPM and shifted, slowed and repeated ten times per gear..

Also, I've noticed when driving down a hill it seems to downshift sooner and suck me back, yet now that I did the long adapt. as soon as I get to flat ground it gets so much better it goes back to being almost un-noticable feel wise..

Before you waste any more time or money, make sure the transmission is the original one. I've seen cases where used transmissions were installed and weren't compatible with the software in the transmission ECU. You'll need to write down all the numbers you can find on the transmission and then check them against the VMI.

I don't have a sports mode, I only have S/W.. Standard or Winter/Wet.

I would be suprised if it has a different trans at only 106k.. but I did notice one of the plugs going into the TCM has a broken clip.. it was still plugged in fine, and wasn't really loose, but I wish I could swap the plug out somehow.. Where can I check the numbers on this trans? (They're location) We hooked it to the Star machine and the trans came up as okay, would it show up if there was a problem?
