Newest Best Bet USED MB to Buy???

What is the newest, best used Mercedes Benz car to purchase out there? One that has solid power, looks great, and available at a decent price after the newness has worn off. I saw a fellow in the parking lot with a 2003 E320 that had great body styling and he said it's given no problems for last 5 years.

The last 'best' older one (as in most reliable) would be the w210 body. However, the e-class from about 2007 onward has always done well in the reliability charts.

Oh boy. If you're going for power and aesthetics, I would say the W140 with the M119 5.0L. But if you want reliability of all the little doodads and functions... well an aged W140 might not fit the bill. Early W210s suffer from rust issues and their transmissions were the first of the real electronic controls, and are quirky because of that. Also very finicky. A later W210 is about perfect in terms of reliability and power, especially the E430

Does the W211 E class that you mention have air ride? If it does, well, $$$$

I would choose a 2000-2002 W210 because there are lots of them around and they are the last years of the 210 chassis so they have all the updates and refinements. If your budget allows a 2007+ W211 would be a solid choice, my selection being a diesel E320 Bluetec. Early 211s are quite problematic.

That's what I was going to suggest.

The 2000-2002 W210 chassis cars are hard to beat.

The 2007-up W211 chassis cars are supposed to have all the bugs worked out.

2007-up W211
I've been thinking that if I were in the mkt for another car it would be an 08+ E class. Sure wish the four cylinder diesel was available over here.

Apparently filling up and not paying is on the increase (over here anyway) - and I guess a car like that is the car to do it in!

You can also find Honest John in a column in the English newspaper "The Daily Telegraph" in the Saturday supplements. I say this just in case you happen to be in an airport and you see a Saturday edition of the Daily Telegraph for sale!

I've sent him a couple of emails before asking about cars that I have no knowledge of and he has responded quickly and informatively within a day.
