engine transplant 95 320

Engine overheated last year. Blew out cylinder and radiator
I have an engine being freighted here.

I know I'll need

Radiator
radiator hoses
exhaust and intake manifold gaskets, including throttle gasket
Radiator mount kit

Trying to figure out if I should look at the auxillary fans or the relays/resistors as the cause of overheating. Already did the fan clutch and will transfer to the new motor or the water pump

Jim, recommend replacing the 2 rubber vertical hoses (crankcase breather hoses, I believe) under the intake manifold before installing the engine. Installing them with the engine in place is a challenge.

Let us know how the engine swap goes. I'm considering replacing the engine in our 1995 E320 (195,000 miles) with a lower mileage engine.

Good tips, my shopping list is getting big but, I think this is a safer bet than any car I would get off the streets for the money I'm putting into it when the body is in good condition.

Replace front and rear main crankshaft seals and reseal the timing chain cover. With the engine out, it's much easier to do these.

Another good idea. I suppose I would practice getting to the seal on the old engine. Are any special tools really required to replace the seals?

I'm trying to come up with a real good system. I'm thinking of masking tape and Sharpie to label everything. As I work through the list mark the parts and the procedure from the shop manual. There is nothing technically challenging about pulling the engine. Supposedly my engine is in town once I can get with the freight company to agree on a delivery time. Parts are on the way. Need to stop by my local indy for a few more parts.

Replace the wiring harness while you're at it. You will eventually if you haven't already.

Previous owner replaced the harness. I'll give it a real good look to see if it has been damaged. I'm hoping that it hasn't
