Anyone know a source for some performance options for a 190E 2.6? Specifically, I'm looking for a replacement exhaust section from the rear of the CAT back. If memory serves me correctly, Carlsson made such an exhaust system a few years back.
I'm also looking to get a different camshaft to add a bit of boost to the overall power. I don't care to do any major surgery, but an exhaust swap and a camshaft would be a simple Saturday project and should make a noticeable improvement. Regards, KM |

This would be a better question to ask MB DOC...the moderator of the performance forum aka "performance paddock" He is the real expert on tuning 190's. Benzmac's tech help is devoted to helping solve maintenance/repair questions.

To do all the work you described in one Saturday you will have to be a pretty well accomplished tech.

Kevin, I own a 1990 190e 2.6 and have replaced my exhaust from cat back. original muffler was
used and resonator part (tail end) was made by Borla in New Jersey. This is made out of stainless steel and gave me a distinct burble. quite happy with it! Would be nice to find a nice set of headers for it though. any info?? Good luck. Tito |

At one time, IMPCO was dealing with the Carlsson stuff for the 190. They listed a complete exhaust system starting with dual headers, a new free-flowing dual CAT and then out with dual pipes from the CAT right to the tailpipe. It was quite expensive.... just under $3K. However, they (IMPCO) no longer have any access to Carlsson products and I fear they are now discontinued, hence my desire to find an alternative.

Kevin, also consider adding a good ignition
sytem such as Jacobs or MSD. Cam suppliers are Bekkers or Renn-tech For Carlsson try Wheelpower.com or CECwheels.com. Toby |

Thanks.... as luck would have it, I just received a new Impco catalog. Guess..... they just happen to list the Shrick camshafts for the 190E 2.3 and 2.6 again! Price for the 2.6 cam is $550.00. They also offer some interesting brake upgrades, euro headlamps and K&N air filters and some suspension upgrades..... but NO exhaust options.
I'm not a big fan of aftermarket ignition systems.... have yet to find much of anything that truly adds much beyond the original gear. If anything, I would look for a more powerful ignition coil. Renntech is quite close to me (south florida) but I find their prices to be extreme.... granted, they do superb work, but you can easily double the price of the car in some cases. Regards, KM |
