A warranty of 25 years / unlimited miles is absolute insanity, regular braking systems are not warranted that long.
The real worrisome part is others will use this as leverage to extend the warranty on other systems and cars regardless of brand. Having 4 + decades in and around the car business, I have consistently seen customer expectations exceed reality and this seems to be a turn for the worse. What is next? Pay for the car after you are done using it? |

The warranty would only be for the electrohydraulic unit of the SBC. When that fails you have extremely diminished braking power and is a very dangerous situation.
Im sure MB will say get lost if people show up trying to warranty brake pads or warped rotors on these cars.

The twenty five year warranty is nothing more than grandstanding on the part of MB. They know full well that the overwhelming majority of SBC equipped cars will be in the boneyard within five years or so.............

Actual Letter
I've attached the ACTUAL MB letter which I received today in the mail, albeit redacted a bit, it identifies the vehicles and the components covered by the new 25 year warranty.
The list of parts covered is extensive. The part I like is if you have paid to repair the SBC componants listed in the letter since the end of the original warranty, the expense looks to be reimbursable, IF it was done at the stealership. Kind of a gift from Santa in August. I've had this car 9 years and it's 14 years old, I have the Mx records from day one and it's NEVER had an issue, yet there's a din that pervades the internet about how crap the system is, yet I've not ever had a problem on my 2005. Hopefully this actual documentation of what MB is offering will clear up the wives tails, moronic speculation and other misinformation as to what is covered and what is not.

We would need to see the original warranty as the one you posted is an addendum .
I don't consider hitting the cycle counter a premature failure of the SBC unit. I consider it a hitting end of expected service life just like an oil filter or brake pad thickness warning. This would need to be specifically addressed in the original warranty. |

Yeah yeah I fully realize there are a pant load of Es vs SLs, despite the fact the Es were only 4 model years with SBC and the SLs were 10 model years. |

I submitted my receipts for an SBC pump replacement that was done at an indy and MB refunded the full amount. In the end, MB paid less than what it would have cost at the dealership.
