A clamp meter does not use any probes, it clips over the wire you want to measure current. If your multi meter has a non clamp amp function, you need to break the circuit and place a probe on each end of the wire. This gets fussy making a clamp meter much better. Jest be sure to get one that measures DC amps as not all do.
