question regarding moving engine/tranny from one 98 E300 to another one
I'm pulling the engine/tranny from a wrecked (green car) car and planning on putting it into another 98 E300 (white car) that needs an engine/transmission. Will I need to move the EIS/key system from the green car to the white one to get it to run?
thanks

My understanding is that they don't need to be changed, The ECU, EIS and key lock from the white car don't know the specific of the engine they are controlling. As long as there's a OM606 at the other end of the control cables all should be good - by my understand there's nothing in the EDC pump that is married via scan coding to the specific ECU. Please let me know how it works for you!

Thanks Tim.
I got the engine/tranny pulled (as a single unit) today. Friend is supposed to bring the white one over the next day or two to start install. Pretty straight forward job. I ended up unbolting the power steering pump and a/c compressor from the block and leaving them hooked up to their respective systems until I can see what all is under the hood of the white one that the owner is bringing over later this week. On a side note this car got rear ended which resulted in pushing the rear differential forward with the input shaft higher than stock. The center support of the drive shaft was broken and you could tell the front flex disc failed when it got pushed forward. Someone told my friend that a rear end collision that pushes the driveshaft forward can damage the transmission (internally). Has anyone ever heard of that. You can't really tell much by looking at it.

It seems possible but my uninformed opinion unlikely.

Finished swap and it runs/drives like it is supposed to. I was swapping tires/wheels from the green one to the white one and I'll be dog gone, the spring perch on the drivers side has issues that are going to need to be repaired. I've told owner to make sure he gets the body shop guy to take care of it.

just move over the mechanical bits, all EIS, key etc remain on their respective cars, and everything will work fine.
