you're right norman.... manny shouldn't sugar coat his feelings like that.

manny now tell us what you really think.

it doesn't appear that this new magazine quite got the responses they were looking for.

these folks are right thou...another month of testing before the announcement would probably have received more enthusiasm.

good luck

Too bad you don't know me.
I NEVER mince words, or sit on any fence!
I am telling Norman B, his home country's " Mercedes Enthusiast " magazine is nothing more than an overpriced rag.
It is jammed full of advertising, and what little actual vehicle testing & evaluating is done, is incomplete, as well as poorly reported. ( Took me a while to figure out what a " Bonnet" and a " Boot " was. I always assumed, a girl wears one & a man the other ).
As I said, they need to take lessons from " Road & Track", "Car & Driver", " Motortrend", " Automobile", or any other North American magazine, how to properly road test & report.
So let's just wait & see how this new magazine turns out, before we ridicule and crucify this poor slob prematurely.
P.S. Is there anything else I can clarify for you ?

Manny: I think that was sarcasm aimed at you by both Norman B and Craig (afmcorp).
Brian: No "Donna-esque" tech editors pleeeeeeze! If you can find a lady-tech who really deserves the position, fine, no problem. But no snow jobs where we are led to believe you have found a model/MB tech to write up a question and answer column, with teeny tiny print at the end saying the answers came from a "actual" MB tech. And no street slang is really gonna add to the content of the answer either.

On the mag: I would like a mag like this. It seems to be a good concept, with a website that needs help (every site does in the beginning. Any site coder will tell you that the end product is of much more use and relavance to the user than what it started with). I would like to get a sample, and determine if I want a subscription. I probably will, if it doesnt contain more info on new MB's than older ones.

I know this is off subject, but while I was at my indie I saw a female tech. I couldnt believe that this INCREDIBLY hot girl was working on MB's! I believe Inspector Gadget (the cartoon) said it best: Yowser!

I welcome a new MB mag. The ones available right now are worthless.

Mercedes Enthusiast - Just terrible. The writing is piss poor, and the magazine seems to be more concerned with the image of the cars, rather than the mechanicals. Every article is incomplete in some way, and it is predictable to a T. A buyers guide, some letters praising the magazine and some hotrods...That the magazine focuses on British models...well duh...

The Star - An advertisement in disguise.

"Momentum" or whatever it is called...please.

Benzo - the name is so stupid I refuse to even touch it.

Some advice for Prestige Mag - A different name please...It needs to appeal to the hardcore 240D owner who gets his hands dirty, not the trophy wife with the ML55. How about something like "Practical Mercedes" or "Mercedes Oldtimer?"

Good luck with your project, and please provide me with some literate, meaningful, and useful material.

Mike

sarcasm

hello gilly

i'm sorry if you were unable to see the dry humor in my remark. i thought we all needed to take a time out.

i am also sorry that you failed to understand that i had agreed with the previous posters that a bit more work on their part (mag editors) would have gone a long way in getting the kind of response they wanted in their initial annoucement. i am quite sure these folks worked very hard in their efforts to create this magazine, and i am sure they were hoping for a more positive feedback. i know of few if any actual first attempts at any endeavor that were out of the park home runs.

in my experience, speaking to a large diverse group such as this forum, it is better to temper one's words so more credence and reliability can be placed on those well chosen words, and further making comments on a personal level only shuts down the free flow of communications and ideas.

just thought i'd clarify this

Give the guy a chance!

Is he guilty until proven innocent or innocent until proven guilty?
Let's wait until the magazine is out and then post your opinions, good or bad.

The first DIY article that needs to appear in this new mag. is how to slip a 5 lt. Ford or the like into an aging sl/slc. The price of spares puts owning and esp. fixing one of these lovelies out of the range of many would be owners.

And you are right about the name. For a mag. that is supposed to be primarily DIY the name is a bit uppity. DIYers, I think, are more interested in having the car run rather that trying to impress others with the image. A car that looks like crap but runs well is always better that the other way around.

Craig (afmcorp),
YES I understand what both you and Norman were attempting to do, completely. I believe it's Manny who still doesn't understand that you both were being sarcastic.
I see the dry humor (and sarcasm). I wrote the book on dry humor. Hasn't been PUBLISHED yet, but it's written. (See, dry humor).
I agree with all of your other comments as well.

>"We are working on a state by state listing of independent repair shops. Think of it as a Yellow Pages for the indy MB show industry. This will take a some time to collect and organize the information. I invite you or any other shop to contact us with your information."

I would be glad to but you said the wrong word. You said the word I knew you were going to say. Are "yellow" pages and yellow journalism related. As far as I can see they are both useless.

If you were to distribute some form of unbiased list it would have some value to the readers. A "yellow pages" will just benefit you and waste space.
