My wheel alignment shop said that my 1979 300D can't be aligned because the lower control arm bushings are bad and no adjustment is possible. The front tires lean in a the top, but otherwise there are no driveability problems. To replace these, I know that I have to compress the springs with a center-type compressor, but I don't see that I have to remove the control arm from the car to replace the bushing. If a suitable tool were available, can this job be done right on the car? My car (100,000 mi) has the type of arm with only 1 lower bushing per side.

I have done this many times in the car. The book says to do it out of the car, so we write it up that way.

It is not easy to do this job, be careful if doing this yourself.
