Maybe so, unfortunately I live in a tiny town (5000) and am lucky there is a repair shop here at all.
The closest MB dealer is well over 100 miles. Sure glad everyone is having fun with my post! Now I'm off to drain my gas tank, slap my mechanic and ride my battery-operated golf cart 8 miles to town, watching for Al Qaeda behind the creosote bushes. Have a good one! |

Thanks for the welcome!
At the price of gasoline ($2.45/gal for premium) out here in California, gas theft will soon overcome home invasions and car jackings. Besides, you'd never find me---I live on dirt roads where directions include "turn right at the joshua tree"! :p |

Is the Freeze 12 just not cutt'in the mustard or are you just concerned about it?? |

The Freeze 12 has been working good. It puts out cold air and it's much better than before I had it charged.
When I bought my car the PO told me I would need to have the A/C recharged. She had put in a new blower the previous summer then bought a new Jag and the MB had been sitting for awhile. She gave me all her paperwork. Then last weekend I noticed that when I sat in traffic at idle, the air was coming out a little warmer than when I'm driving, so I called and asked my mechanic what he had used, cause I hadn't written it down when we discussed it. So---I did what the sticky said for us 'newbies' to do: I used the search engine here and saw the discussion about Freeze 12. The 'cars exploding' got my attention. I have fixed pretty much everything on this car in the months I have owned it (cosmetically and mechanical) and even had the timing belt, tensioner, etc replaced just for insurance...I'd hate to see all those new parts (not to mention my own old parts) flying over the Mojave! |

Probably the least of your worries would be exploding. I would be more concerned about that 'timing belt' going out since there is no Mercedes that doesn't use a 'chain' for that function.
On older MB's some A/C problems are due to the air exchange motors behind the dash being worn out and maybe not the 'system' at all. Turn on the A/C and drive around a while. Get out and look under the car. If water is dripping constantly from the center of the car, but the A/C isn't cooling well, then you may need the vacuum elements replaced. I replaced my compressor and a leaking hose only to find that my system was only pulling in outside air. As my tech put it "even the best A/C system can't do it's job breathing only 100 degree air!" |

. I ran Duracool for awhile in my black '85 300D and never blew up - not that I could tell anyway . Finally got tired of not being cool (I'm 47 yrs old and I AM NOT going to have a car without a/c ) and got rid of the DuraCool and went back to r12. They all work just like they were designed to work 15+ years ago. I have an issue right now on the '81 300D where the condenser fan is not coming on like it ought to. Got to look into it this weekend.

Duh! I meant 'chain'...don't know why I said belt.
I'll do that tomorrow...I work from home. so I don't commute... but I have a weekend trip planned so I'm sure I'll be in traffic and I'll see if it does the same thing. |
