W140 Blower Regulator Problem

Hey Everyone!

I wass referred here by a fellow BenzWorld member. This is an awesome site! There are some REALLY knowledgable people here!

Anyways, I have done some search around about my climate control blower problem. Here is a description of my problem:

First off, when you have the climate control set to a cold setting, it does indeed blow cold air. . . that is not the problem. The problem is that, when the A/C is on, the fans seems to power up and power down by themselves. I set the fan speed to "max" and took a drive in the car. At first, all was fine . . . the A/C was blowing nice old air at maximum speed. However, after driving for about two minutes, then fans all die down until they pretty much shut off. When you come to a stop light, as soon as you stop, then all of the fans suddenly kick in again at maximum speed; however, as you start to drive again, then all of the fans shut down.

Some people say that simply replacing the cabin filter can fix the problem, but if this were the case, wouldn't I be able to hear the fans blowing hard, but feel no air blowing in the cabin (due to a clogged filter)?

Which leads me to believe that it is the infamous blower regulator problem.

Can anyone help me out before I go buying parts? My problem seems similar to everyone elses except that my blowers actually work when the car is standing still at stop lights . . .

This is so confusing

Thanks for the help guys!
Bryan
