W126 Passenger Side Squeak Found!

After looking for more than 2 years, the maddening squeak from the passenger side area was found by my 20 year old son!

I have partially disassembled the dash, removed and reinstalled the side cover panel that is covered with carpet, beat on every obvious part of the dash, door, etc ... and it was ...

The hard plastic door panel edge at the very bottom of the door rubbing into the plastic door sill ... an area of several inches, on close examination, shows a slight indentation ...

Now, I don't know why this would start ... however, I would postulate it could be caused by the door rubber slowly beginning to be permanently compressed, allowing the door to shut too far ... I have carefully check alignment of the door, and there has never been any damage ... so ruled out changes in geometry ...

I will eventually get gray fabric tape to prevent plastic-on-plastic friction ... until then, a small towel laid over the door sill completely eliminates the sound.

Congrats!

My 560SEL driver's side door makes the same racket (But only when the temps are below ~2o degrees F)

Took some time find the culplrit. There's a host of threads out there in regards to the 126 issue. Some have used ski wax, others Lexol. Both short term solutions, your fabric remedy may do the trick.

Oh, yes. been there, done that. Mine only squeaks during warm weather. I found a good fix was to use a dab of silicon grease
underneath the little rubber lip or flap on the rocker panel.
This little flap contacts the bottom of the door panel when the door is closed.
It seems to me the actual squeak occurs there - the door panel
pushes the little flap against the rocker panel body and......squeak, squeak, squeak.
Just get a finger under the flap and lift it up slightly, then run a grease coated finger along it's entire length, and voila, no squeak.
Of course, with a gray door panel, I also tried the prerequisite duct tape on the door bottom, but no help.

I tried a different type of medicine. Replaced all the rubber underneath the car. Now that the suspension is tight again, the sqeaking too has disappeared.

Thumbs up

I started a thread awhile back asking for solutions to the creaking wood trim on my 126 door panels, and received some great responses. Glad to report here that I at least resolved that issue this past weekend...removed all four door panels and each piece of trim, smeared the back of the trim and mating surfaces of the plastic panels (blue, BTW) with molybendum disuffide wheel bearing grease. This stuff is black, so if your panels are a lighter color, you woudn't want to use it, as a minor amount of excess would probably stain. It doesn't show on blue though.
