W126 Passenger Side Squeak Found!
After looking for more than 2 years, the maddening squeak from the passenger side area was found by my 20 year old son!
I have partially disassembled the dash, removed and reinstalled the side cover panel that is covered with carpet, beat on every obvious part of the dash, door, etc ... and it was ... The hard plastic door panel edge at the very bottom of the door rubbing into the plastic door sill ... an area of several inches, on close examination, shows a slight indentation ... Now, I don't know why this would start ... however, I would postulate it could be caused by the door rubber slowly beginning to be permanently compressed, allowing the door to shut too far ... I have carefully check alignment of the door, and there has never been any damage ... so ruled out changes in geometry ... I will eventually get gray fabric tape to prevent plastic-on-plastic friction ... until then, a small towel laid over the door sill completely eliminates the sound.
