Rod bearings: replacement on M130

I have got bad rod bearing(s) on the 1971 W114. The noise sounds like a SICK ENGINE. The car was driven 4 to 5 miles at minimal rpm's and parked.

When I remove the caps and inspect the crankshft, and if I find no evidence of scoring or gouging on the crank journals, will a replacement set of rod bearings fix the car?

Otherwise, its' headed for the boneyard. Sad to see end up there, there is no little rust.

I would get some plastigage wax rods to measure the bearing clearance and see if they are in spec.

I'll mike the cranshaft...

the best I can tomorrow, from underneath the engine. I drained the oil into a pail with a pourus fabric on top, but I didn't find any metal particles. I expected something. Maybe the rod bearing hasn't spun and destroyed the crankshaft.

Those oil pan hex bolts are tedious. The engine shock absorber prevents me from removing one bolt. I cannot figure out how to remove the shock absorber. I got the bottom nut off, but the top of the shock absorber disappears behind the harmonic balancer. Any ideas? (besides a Dremel)

Its been a while but I believe I was able to get a wrench on the top bolt and spin the shock body with pliers. Not the factory method I'm sure, but it worked.
