I recently purchased a nice 1972 220D, which has a broken antenna mast. The cable has also been badly spliced, so that a replacement is needed. Does anyone know how to remove/replace the right front fender mounted antenna? The only access that I can see is a hole about 1" diameter that the cable passes through the inner fender wall into the car.
Thanks for any help. Jeff |

It's been a long time, but if I remember correctly, you can remove the kick panel on the outboard side of the footwell for access. If that doesn't work, see if there is a clsong panel inside the wheel well (between the interior of the fender and the wheel housing).

Thanks for your quick response. I'll go and check for those possibilities. I looked before, knowing that there MUST be some way to replace an antenna. They (surely) didn't install it before bolting the fender on.

I was able to access the antenna by removing a panel in the wheel well (3 screws). New antenna now in place. Now I need a better stereo. Actually, the present radio is only mono, with two really crappy speakers.
Thanks for your assistance. Jeff |
