Help identify this center seat adapter
I acquired several seat cushions that go between the front seats of 1960s / 1970s Mercedes cars. My understanding is often these cushions are used as a third front row seat and the fold-down center armrests serve as the backrest for this center seat. I have also seen these referred to as "seat adapters".
Here is one that I can't identify, particularly because of the unusual mounting on the bottom. The dimensions of the metal bottom pan are 18" long and 6 1/2" wide at the narrow end and 7 1/2" wide at the wide end. Does someone know what this goes to? thanks Scott |

Just as a datapoint, here is the research I have already done. See attached photograph.
The left one according to the part number I have fits all W114/W115 cars from 1968 - 1973, sedans and coupes. The second one fits the center console of my 1963 W111 220S sedan. The third one (with only a slightly different shape) fits the console of my 1960 W111 220S sedan. The forth one fits the center console of a later W108 sedan. The first 3 are fairly tall at the tallest point, where as the 4th one isn't tall at all at the tallest point. The console for the 4th one has power window switch holes also. But the one with the metal pins and the metal slide thing shown in the first post is very unlike these in that it doesn't look like it fits into a tray. So I have no idea... In fact it couldn't fit into a tray because the pins would cause it to stick up an inch.... |

An ebay seller named davidneuberth has a white one for sale right now that is the same (almost) as the one in question. His looks the same as yours, except it appears that those short posts have been cut off. Unfortunately, his ebay ad doesn't have any specifics as to what model. Perhaps you can contact him for more info.

Scott-
Do you know if cars that used those had extra seat belts installed? Or was it long enough ago that nobody worried about it? I have been considering getting one for my w115 column shift auto, but with the seat belt laws how they are, I am not sure anyone could actually use it these days.

Just had a chat with him. Unfortunately he doesn't know what it fits either.

I wonder if the pins fit where the screws on the normal version would go through and the slide at back fits under the rear support? I don;t know for sure if it would work but I had the console out of my W111 coupe last week and it seems like it could work. Maybe making it more of a "semi-permanent seat" than the plop in flat bottom cushions.

If you look through the hole, you will see an edge of a paper tag.....pull the cover off the rest, lift the horse hair pad out and there will be a model number of the car it came from on it...

Well, there is a part number which unfortunately I can't cross reference to anything. 1089146314. Sigh.

At least it starts by 108.

ScooterABC, I recently had a issue finding an OEM hose which has an additional number printed on it (this part had a trailing 4 at the end). It took me a while to figure out that I needed to leave the 4 out, but as soon as I did I found the part right away on EPC-net.
Is the part number on the tag clearly printed? Could one of the numbers be different? (i.e. you're reading '9' and it's actually an '8'). Are there any extra numbers that could be throwing off the actual part number? Post a pic of the tag! ![]()

Yeah, but that really doesn't help much. I have access to a 108 that I can try it in, but the issue is all of the 108s that I have seen have a center console that screws in rather than clips in. This is designed to slide back into a latch and then down into two holes...

The tag and number is faded but clear. And unfortunately I've already reassembled the cushion and it was rather difficult to remove the cover the first time. Actually didn't remove it completely, only the lip of the front and side edges so that I could pry up the pad from the metal pan enough to see the tag. What I have found in EPC is a glaring error. You can search for a part number without reference to a specific model. However it will sometimes return nothing if that part number is in an option set other than 01. For example, group 91 is front seats, and some of the cushions that I have identified don't appear in the EPC search. If however I open up a W111 sedan and go to section 91 and chose one of the subgroups such as "leather seat adapter for cars with column shift" then sometimes THAT screen will display in the parts list the part I am trying to find. But if I search for that part number it won't find it. Also if I have a specific vehicle selected and I search by name "seat adapter" it will return values that I can't find another way. And if I click on one of those it will take me to the applicable location, which is sometimes in one of the odd subgroups. So "search" in EPC doesn't search all of EPC. It only searches most of EPC by part number. And "search" but description "seat adapter" returns things that I can't find easily any other way, but I haven't it on the right vehicle combination for this item yet. Another example - the door interior arm rest in a Pagoda - 1139701501 - if you search for this in EPC you get nothing. However if you go to look for cars 113.044 and look at door panels and then choose the subgroup for optional leather trim you _will_ find this part number. Odd. |

These fit all W108/W109/W110/W111/W112, and it's missing the front mounting bracket. Pictures of one in a W108, and a W112 coupe:
