Maybe look at past completed sales on Ebay?

I need to figure out how to look up completed items on my tablet . From the prices I see for transmission parts , I should break the transmission apart .

Depends on how much trouble and what your time is worth I guess.

That is a bad idea. Limited buyers out there and if someone needs parts they'll want new ones.

there are a few unavailable parts to rebuild a 6.3 transmission. If yours needs rebuilding, then you could conceivably sell those 3-4 parts, if they are in great condition and the rest will go so somebody willing to give you a few hundred so they get all the rest for their spare parts pile (me, I already have one in that condition).

On the other hand you could sell the complete thing as a core and probably get the same coin without having to demonstrate that those parts are worthy.

But, if your transmission is in "good, used condition" and can be used in a car as-is, then sell it whole.

Put an ad on craig's list with a few photos, state the condition and put the link here. Make sure you use the keywords mercedes, m100, 6.3 and both trans and transmission.

There are a few other sites we can cross-post the link to.

Oh, and use cooperative language like "willing to crate and ship world wide". Your buyer might be in Singapore.

Want to ask top dollar?, if it's in drop-in condition, start at a grand, but be prepared to take the 3rd offer you get, which won't hit that number.

I was kidding about tearing the trans down. Thank you everyone for the feedback. I will post it for $500nor best offer in the classified section. I think that is a fair price.

Back in 1982 or 83 if I remember right, my indy told me it would cost something like $4k or $5k to replace the transmission in my '71 6.3.

They only made 6500 cars and a lot of them are long gone. A good used and working trans should be worth a lot more than 500 bucks to someone who doesn't have one. 6.3's have increased in value more than I would have expected.

You don't seem to know the condition it seems so unless you want say its good and face an unhappy buyer if its not then You have a RWD Auto" Transmission Core "$29.99 at any Pick N Pull Yard . Would cost a Lot to Check it requiring a tear down Then reassemble .
P & P gives a 30 day warranty ( Credit ) rather then face an unhappy Buyer . Smart of P & P they have a Guaranteed Sale Heck if someone wanted to pay $100 for a core I would be overjoyed really and a fair Price for a Hard to find Core
Example at a I Pull U Pull Yard a MB 600 Ya its their . Are You offering a Warranty Perhaps ? that might affect the Value perhaps

Food for thought. That picture in the scrap yard makes me cry.

If you sell it overseas then check out professional crating companies. Most large cities have a few. They also can ship things for less than you ever could since they can send stuff standby.

A friend of mine sent a fender, which was new, for a 112, to the UK from Oklahoma. The shipping price was $3,500, the standby price was $750. But the buyer was willing to pay the shipping and for rare parts the cost of shipping is something the buyer just has to eat.

Selling engines and transmissions can be tricky for these rare cars. I ended up with a 6.9 engine when my transmission and car piece fell apart so I was stuck selling an engine. On one end of the spectrum is the rarity and consequential high price versus high risk of issues with resulting low pricing. I lost a few hundred bucks getting rid of an engine and I would assume the same analysis with a transmission

Might be able to sell it on BAT. I see car parts there frequently. Get's a lot of exposure and it might get bid up. Or put it on a platform like Ebay where it can just be there until the right person see's it. If you are in a hurry to sell it that could be more of a problem. Ever CL-a lot of people look over large areas. I have sold some stuff there I thought I never would.

I checked out that scrapyard entry. The VIN makes it a 220S. -CTH
