--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
trying to install a idle up ` vacuum system in to my 38 PDSI solex carburetor. got original bracket and dashpot of a PDSI 36-40 carburetor and fit perfectly to my carburetor base. now how do i install the vacuum line. can i connect it to manifold vacuum where my brake booster is connected do i need a switch over valve ? can anyone show me step by step the simplest way to install a idle up |

Thought this got answered earlier.
You need to run the vacuum from a carb base fitting - you can use a "Y" if you don't have a spare one. Use a nice tight-fitting hose. That's it. Then you need to adust the gap between the actuator bolt and the throttle arm using the in-out of the bolt by trial and error so that you get the right RPM increase when the AC comes on.

You can connect the vacuum to whatever manifold vacuum source is most convenient - port at base of carb, power brake hose etc... Make sure it's full manifold vacuum and not restricted or regulated vacuum like the distributor advance.
You'll need some kind of an electric valve to switch vacuum. Maybe a search in your local salvage yard will turn up a suitable one, like those used on the emission systems on many early '70s Mercedes or BMW or the AC idle-up systems on many '70s, '80s Japanese cars. Power the switching valve off the AC compressor clutch power wire. Happy Motoring, Mark

dashpot
thanks mark, i connect the dashpot thru the brake booster vacuum line by fabricating a T then i connect it to the dashpot. now when i turn the engine the dashpot retracts and when i turn the aircon it extend but not to the point it reaches the throttle linkage. i adjusted it but same result. I decided to just buy a idle up or a valve switch vacuum of a 90s toyota. the problem is it works the other way around when the aircon is OFF there is NO VACUUM making my dashpot extends to the throttle linkage but when i turn ON the aircon there is VACUUM and the dashpot retracts from the throttle linkage. what i need is when aircon is OFF there is VACUUM and when aircon is ON there is NO VACUUM .Is there a way i can use a relay or some sort of electric device that makes my valve switch operate the other way . thanks

Of course your dashpot is working opposite of those cars that use one to idle-up for the AC. You have three options.
1. Install a relay to cut power to the vacuum valve when the AC is on. Relay powered off the compressor source. Vacuum valve powered through the ignition switch, via a fuse at the fusebox. This will complicate your AC-related wiring. 2. Find a different vacuum valve that CUTS vacuum when the compressor is on. This would be the easiest fix if you can find the right valve. 3. Modify the dashpot linkage or get a different dashpot, so it idles-up the throttle when the AC is on and vacuum is applied. A fourth option, one I would have tried, would be to simply adjust the idle up slightly, about 200 RPM, and forget about adding the idle-up device. This option would depend on how much your AC installation drags down your engine's idle speed. Happy Motoring, Mark
