You may want to try to up the modulator pressure before giving up on the CD trans. These are vacuum only, and adjustments are critical. The VCV (Vacuum Control Valve on the Injection Pump) needs to work properly, as well as the modulator needs to hold pressure. The O ring in the modulator cap goes bad sometimes, and causes a leak. Also, the cap itself can get a crack or leak. Check these things first, and maybe you can save some work changing out the bell on the trans.
