WVO Blend with Other. . .
I know.
You're tired of WVO threads. You hate that anyone is running a precious MB on WVO. For some of us, the WVO adventure is the main reason we got an MB. BUT we also grow to love the MB for all the other wonderful things it is. We'd go to a MB-WVO forum. The other forums, though good, are geared toward all cars. Since MB is an indirect injection, it's a bit different than talking about a VW TDI. All that said, i'm in Denver where the temp is now 60+ overnight. We decided to try blending WVO and diesel for the summer. It's all filtered (cold filtered after weeks of settling, no nasty stuff) and blended and in the tank. We took it for a drive and the car's sound smoothed out and so did the shaking. It sounds more like a gasser and the soothing vibration is gone (sadly, I really like the vibration). It also seems to have MORE power. It pulled a hill that it normally doesn't like with sure ease. Now to see what kind of milage this tank gets. . . I UNDERSTAND that some of you will feel I'm risking my car. Please refrain from reminding me of your opinion. I'm really writing to those of like mind, if you don't like what i'm doing, don't respond. Thanks for that understanding.

Thanks for posting it! I'm blending fresh vo with diesel myself. Started with 8lvo/42lD, 16lvo/30lD, and now 25lvo/30lD. The next fill it'll be 35lvo/rest diesel. The car works fine! The engine 2.5l turbo (602) had no shaking or excssive clattering and with vo added probably is a bit quieter.
I added some custom made injector line heaters and a spin-on-fuel-filter heater (both electric). I don't know how much they're helping since the summer is already here (Tirana, Albania, South Europe) but the cars starts right away, and idles very calm, even when cold. In your case, I'd go for a set of injector line heaters from fattywagons.com, since I've heard they work very well and are not that expensive, $20ish for the whole set. I know I'm going to .Good luck! Deni p.s. Ignore the WVO bashing. They seem to be just attention wh*r*s .

Hi Deni,
Yeah, I'll ignore them. I will look into the heated injectors. I called the DH after his 70 miles drive (was concerned the fuel filter would get clogged and he'd be stranded) but he said the car drove better, had more power and was smoother than it has ever been. I'm sure that a filter change is in the near future for me. Good luck!

I also heard the injector line heaters are worth getting. I don't think you should have to let your oil settle for so long. 5 days seems pretty safe to me.

thanks, I'll keep the settling in mind.
I didn't let it settle that long on purpose, just happened to be 3 weeks since I made a bio batch. If i decide to keep this up, I'll need a second vo source. . .

As for settling, I find that it is dependant on heat. The more heat, the faster the settling. Less heat, slower settling, to a point where it will not settle at all. I have some 5 gallon paint buckets filled with WVO in the garage and I am finding that they will not settle as it has been 15C or less for a few weeks here in Toronto. As I slowly work on my 2 tank heated system I am blending 20% Gas with %80 WVO. I find on the cool mornings it starts a bit harder but runs well when warmed-up.

Here are the search results:
Search for blend diesel - 299 threads Search for blend diesel wvo - 99 threads Nobody is bashing WVO, maybe bashing reposts. Do you people ever search? The problem is that reposts make it hard to find anything useful when people do search. Lord of the Flies should be required reading. This forum was a useful source of information and now it is becoming just another bathroom wall for kiddies to scribble on. Some people like to hear themselves talk even if they have nothing new to say, now we have people who like to see their own posts even though they have nothing new to post. It is about entertainment, not information, things change. It is just as ok to post a complaint as to post a repost. Get used to it, there is no right or wrong here. |

5000 miles on 60% WVO near Orlando (the grease capital of the world)
I get awesome oil (peanut) from a restaurant that uses it for one day only. I have an '84 300D, one tank conversion, 25 minute commute to work. I put the oil in an electric turkey fryer 5 gallons at a time and heat it up to about 350F to dewater. I then mix with diesel, let it settle in case of wax coming out of solution, then filter to 1 micron. I installed a flat plate heat exchanger between the primary filter and the lift pump. My temps are about 150F. This is sort of a 'down the middle' conversion. I am trying to play it safe for the car, only 60% WVO in a warm climate, with a heat exchanger. So far, it's running great. Maybe I'll save enough money to fix the AC.
