Just remember that the oil contains additives designed to prevent it from burning, synthetic probably won't burn at all.

"That is certainly your own problem for getting a job so far from home"

Well when we GOT this business it was as payment for a debt. So it was not quite as simple as a "choice" and second gas was 90cents a gallon. Third its a limited license family business. If I stop going there the family hurts and this will eventually hurt me.

Thats why I want to use Waste Oil. I can get enough of it for several YEARS worth of usage and IT IS in fact "my problem" hence why I want to solve it.

Moving work is not possible. Moving home would cost 10times what a lifetime of fuel would cost so thats not an option. (we partially own NOT rent so its not so easy to just "move")

So I have to find a solution around the problem. There are NO alternatives. You are wrong. Period. An alternative is a solution that will cost less money than the current method.

I AM HOPING to "create" a solution with waste oil. but I also can not afford to blow up an engine :-)

SO what components are at risk from whatever is in the oil? How hard is it to replace those components (I have a whole second car so I do not have to BUY any of these components)

Would love any suggestions on how I can test this.

This forum is the same as many others I have posted in but the bottom line is what I stated at the end. Do what you want to. I don't care!
(There that makes 2 posts).

I don't like the idea of running used motor oil as a fuel. But, I did try it just so that I could use it if I had no other choice.

Note that used motor oil is legally classified as a hazardous material, it is poison, it burns, it absorbs through your skin, the fumes absorb through your lungs when you breath them, everyone around your car will breath the fumes when you use it as a fuel and you will be poisoning them.

The best option would be to process the oil before you use it as fuel in your car. Burn part of the oil to process the part you will use for fuel in your car. Re-refined oil is a commercial product and information is available.

When you get around to mixing it with fuel, regular unleaded is a better choice than diesel.

The next time someone asks me why I wouldn't ever buy a used diesel engine, I will just refer them to this thread.

No, it is not.

You shouldn't put RUG in your diesel engine, ever. If you have to thin it out, use kerosene. RUG is bad because it has a tendency to separate (rather than mix with) from oils. Kerosene, D2, bio-d, WVO, WMO... these all mix together quite nicely within the tank. Even if you are pre-mixing with RUG, it'll still manage to form little pockets of fuel. That's why it's not a good mixer: your engine hates burning RUG.

Who is going to delete them? He can't. Only moderators can do that. If your posts violate the forum rules they will be deleted. Keep it civil and don't openly challenge a moderator, and noboby will delete your posts.

At least that's been my experience and FI and I have had some rather aminmated debates....

Challenge his facts..........not his intelligence. There seems to be quite a bit of the latter..........with very little supporting evidence of the former.

This goes both ways.........BTW.

This may be true... but just by way of presenting the evidence for the other side, in twenty+ years we haven't blown up the tractor mixing RUG in with the diesel for the winter. We probably run 10% +/- 3% RUG in the winter in the old thing, just so it'll start easier. Haven't killed it yet and can't tell that there have been side effects, if any.

Isn't it really bad for the environment running this crap? I know I hate getting stuck behind an old diesel MB because they are usualy smokey junkers. I can just imagine the amazing smell and cloud one running on motor oil would leave. Maybe the 300CD that I was caught behind the other day in New Haven was running this junk, I nearly choked on that exhuast.

Lots of parts cars to go around thats for sure!

Conservative fellow such as yourself is actually concerned about the environment...........whoa............that's the province of a Liberal. Don't want to be caught dead on that side of the fence. Your cohorts would never speak to you again............

Well we all have our weak moments.

Actualy I just wanted to throw another point of view into the fire, hoping the WVO crowed picks up the torch from here.

Environment? Whats that?

Edit: That 300CD the other day was bad though, my eyes were watering!

That's the heavy metals that are now vaporized from the motor oil..........but, don't worry about it..........the atmosphere can take it..........
