Yesterday my OE Mercedes (Becker) cassette/radio started squeeling through the speakers and will not stop. Other functions are as normal. Bad solder joint or worse condition?

try unplugging the amp, it is located in the rear compartment opposite the spare tire, it is the black box near the power antenna motor, i have seen a few do this same thing. let us know what happens.

thanks Ray but the 90 does not have the rear amp, that amp appeared in 91.

did you look? i have seen amps here on early models, the squeeling is exactly as you described. my 1990 300SE has the amps.

Yes, Ian-san, Ray is correct. Some late production MY1990s, with "SoundSystem/Active Bass" had the tuner/amp (A2/3), which is listed as in the trunk, right side. Others had the (N40/3) audio power amp, if they just had the Active Base (also right side of trunk). Not sure if the stationwagon is different.

Do you have a Becker 1480 (single unit) or the BE 1432 (2-piece, aft mounted amp, HU has 'Mode' button). Will be interesting to see if you have the BE 1480 AND the separate amp.

I think I have the Becker 1480, but I'm not sure, it just says Mercedes Benz across the front.
Unfortunately no amp at the antenna location. My April built TE is not a late model 1990, which is shown as September or later in 82-7502. It would be nice to have the extra amp (and additional speakers)? I'm not sure where they would mount 2 more speakers in a TE. An interesting note that I found in job 82-7725 is that there is an option for a rear compartment heater, I wonder when it or why it would be required?
