I have the 300TE wagon. There is a good amount of space back there, but everything is pretty much open to the elements.

Right not, I am running a Pioneer Premier Head
With all pioneer speakers
and two Rockford Fosgate Punch stage 2's
with a 600 watt kenwood amp.

Yeah, I wont win competitions or anything, but it beats the sox off of the stock setup.

Well, that setup almost changed today....

I almost put an alpine into my car, but decided against it. I like the pioneer, and the XM is cool too.

hmm.. why did you decide against it? I thought alpine was like the "god" of audio systems? was it the price?

Doing a system all depends on how much you want to spend and what opinons you take.

bfisher has a nice install, and I am sure sounds great.

Now it doesn't have to cost much to do a sound system either, if you shop around you can get some great equipment for cheap.

Installing is not too difficult, you just have to run the wires properly and use good quality cables.

My system has been built up and torn down so many times, that it is sucha mess right now.

When I finally get a chance, its going to be totally different.

I plan on gutting my entire interior, removing everything completely, and running all new wiring everywhere that it needs to go, and dynamating the entire car inside the cabin and trunk. it is something I can only do if I don;t have to drive the car for a few weeks, and if I have the time to work on it, which I don;t have either option.

so for now, I have to have amessy system with some minor issues, but it still sounds great to me.

Alon

Yes, some do feel that Alpine is the Holy Grail of sound systems in cars. I had an Alpine in the car, and I feel that Pioneer has just a bit better sound quality than Alpine does. Alpine is also very overpriced for the features that you get.

I still have my old alpine that I replaced with my new Pioneer. It is a great CD player that may be ressurected one day when I get another car. The Alpine offers excellent sound quality, but the Pioneer offers excellent aound quality if not better than the Alpine. It also has better and more features than the Alpine, so I aam VERY happy.

Hey bfisher and everyone following along,

How's it going? I have been working real hard on the details for my system. I decided to save up for the Clarion HU. It has a LOT of the features I am looking for and looks good in my dash. Check out what my friend did for me in PhotoShop (see attached)! My latest idea is to forgo the spare as I have enough room to fit both my 10" subs in there leaving me plenty of room for my amps elsewhere.

Battlecat714,

I haven't got the Clarion yet. My friend Photoshopped that for me to get an idea what it will look like in my dash. I said I was going to "save up" because if I were to walk into my local shop and order one, it would cost me $1100! Now, I will not pay that as I have found them as cheap as $700. I could handle that for a world class CD player for a world class car. To some that may sound a little crazy but, I am somewhat of an audiofile freak and if you saw the specs, you would know why I am going with this one. This unit is off the hook, as they say!

Does that have a flipout LCD or something??? For that much,, you could go with an alpine AVIC with navigation, and all new speakers.

What model Clarion is that? And also, what does your current radio look like?

No flip out, just bullet-proof, high end components. And, what I like about it is its simple facade. All the other cheaper ones have all this screensaver BS and movies, etc. I just want something simple. Unfortunately, you have to pay an arm and a leg for it. The model is DRZ9255. Check out their website, it is truly an amazing piece. I haven't really considered Navi and I have speakers already. I'll check that Alpine out, though. I have always been a HUGE Alpine fan but, I am not impressed by what they have out now. I thought about buying an older model but they do not play MP3 or WMA's! Attached is a pic of my stock dash.

Thanks!

Have you considered Blaupunkt?? Mayn member love their awesome sound, and they are fairly basic in terms of looks. They have no bling, but they have all of the features you would get from an Alpine.

No, I really haven't. They turned me off several years ago and haven't looked again. I am a touch old school and I may need to get with the times. Mostly because the cheap stuff has started to come around and make a quality product. For example, Pioneer and Kenwood has some competetive units on the market now.

Where has bfisher been?!

I have looked into those and they are nice! Of course, the one I like the best is $599. I was offering info on a great product by JL Audio that keeps your stock HU and allows you to add aftermarket amps. It also balances the equalization issues the factory systems have these days, and a bunch more. But, I put a halt to that when I found out the stock HU only plays down to 50Hz. Hence, my search for a CD/MP3/WMA player.
