I have a small amplified subwoofer and would like to place it in the trunk of my C-230. Can I pick up signal from one of the rear speakers? I've been told I might need a high to low filter or a crossover unit? Could the fact that I'm feeding an already amplified signal to my subs' amplifier create a problem?
My rear deck speakers seem to made of several separate speakers, perhaps with their own crossovers. There are what appears to be two small woofers, pointing down into the trunk. Should I splice into their input? Thanks, Glenn |

I don't know about any hi/low filters, but maybe they are required, I can check it mine has that if you want to know for sure. I am talking about my C280 also.
But to answer your question, yes you can splice into the rear speaker for a sub. My sub gets it's sound from the driver's side rear deck lid speaker. Have never had any problems, so I don't see why you couldn't.

Depends on the sub
Does your sub come with a built in crossover? Many crossovers do.

I have two subs. One is in a premade box with a crossover unit and is a 100W, 8 inch unit. To get any bass through from the trunk I may need to use my old 12 inch crunch and 200W amp. I don't have a crossover with this.
Can I run what is in effect already an amplified signal from the rear speakers into my sub's amp, or is this too much power? Glenn |

If it is designed to work with speaker level signals, no problem. If it expects to see a line level signal you need to attenuate this signal with a resistive network. This will convert speaker level to line level signals. Such a device should be available commercially, either at a local car audio shop or at a place like Crutchfield, http://www.crutchfield.com
