I have searched all the old posts I could find, but none seemed to relate to my question. I have a 1984 190E that didn't come with front dash speakers. I have installed a Blaupunkt CD receiver and upgraded the rear speakers to 4" Pioneers, but when I wanted to install the front speakers, there's a cardboard layer, with a circular cut-out.

Before I cut this board, does anyone know if the speaker wire or connector is there? I want to preserve the connections to the built-in fader.

Regards,

Egdares Futch

190 speakers.

I have a set of Eclipse 4 inch coaxes used in my 16 valve 190 that was taken out and im not using them anymore. I also have the Infinity replacement speakers that were the direct fit. If you are interested, Ill be willing to sell them to you. Where are you located? Joe

Thanks, but I already have the speakers

Joe-1:

Thanks, but I already have the speakers, I only need to know that the wiring is there, since the car came without those installed from the factory.

Wiring should be there but with a funky MB only connector...at least that was the case with my old 1992 190E 2.6. I'm not sure about the older models though. Did you call a dealer? I suppose you can cut the wire and put your own connector for whatever speaker you put in. I do know that unless you put OEM in you'll be limited to what will drop in unless you customize the opening. If your going to rock the house then definitely go with some fat monster speaker wire throughout, but then, you must know that. Happy motoring.

If the wiring is there, be sure to observe proper polarity of the wires. If the speakers are connected out of phase(wired backwards) there will be a lot of sound wave cancellation. In the Benzes, the striped wire in the pair is the +, the plain wire in the pair is the -. Sounds simple, but I have spent hours t-shooting customers cars in the past that had the wires connected improperly. Just thought I would throw that out..

Ive got a 1984 190e and just did a complete speaker and deck replacement myself. I used 4 inch speakers with one of the mounting tabs cut off and another bent up to conform to the exitsing daash shape. I used silicone caulk to secure them to the dash while giving them some isolation from teh rest of the car. You can pull out the original spekers and youll find some leads with teh MB round plug that attached to the rest of the wiring, the plug is about 6 inches from the speaker and youll most likely need to pull some slack out also to make things easier on you for the install. As for the wire coloring the left side is a blck wire and a green wire green being positive on the right side the is a black wire and a red wire with the red being positive. I may have the color-side orientation mixed up so if i do just revers the colors to the otherside in what I said. I took the 6 inch leads off the original speakers and soldered them to the new ones observing polarity for each. once that was gone it was just a matter of plugging in the new speakers and putting a dab os silicone on the tabs then placing the new speakers in the dash holes. I used the vinegar smelling silicone as its vapors arent toxic and the stuff doesnt eat thru surfaces. aftr letting the silicone dry overnight i put the original grills over the speakers and screwed them down. Total time it took me to remove the old speakers and install new ones was about 3 hours mostly because removing the grill screws it a real pain in the neck youll need a 90deg screwdriver for this or a really short one. once the grills were off i got the speakers out by using the biggest flathead screwdriver i could find and prying them up at the 2 markings on the tops of the speakers (its like a small dot) be careful when prying them up as they will go airborne and smack into the windsheild when they pop out. If you need anything else email me at Pilotx1@earthlink.net and id be glad to help you out if i can.
