I have read the 3700 posts about becker and its problems. I have an 89 190 and I am planning on putting in another deck most likely a pioneer cd. When the becker is out there are two plugs, and l and r lines for speakers. There is also a thick black wire going to the rear right. I heard that crutchfield has harnesses that will match the factory wiring. Is this true? does that take care of all the plugs and the black wire? I don't want to cut any wires other than speakers lines to bypass the fader.
I would just like to know what wires are for what on the entire unit and anything else I need to know. I bet you guys have talked about these stupid radios enough times to chap your lungs but I thought I'd ask again

well generally there are four wires that need to be hooked up when installing a radio in a car.

Power - Constant
Power - Key on
Ground
Antenna

The rest of thew installation are speaker connections.

if you put in an aftermarket amp, then you will also need to run a remote wire tot he amp fromt he radio.

Installation is not that hard. if you can't find an adapter plug, you can always strip the wires back a bit without cutting off the plug and Solder on the wires for the new radio.

That way if you decide to sell the car and want to take out the new head unit and put in the old becker, a little cutting of the soldered wires and some electrical tape should be fine.
